History
The original inhabitants of Adelaide River were Aborigines of the Awara and Kungarakan groups. The first know Europeans to see the site of the present Adelaide River township were members of George Goyder's survey expedition in 1860. Goyder was surveying a large area for potential settlement. The first 'settlement' at Adelaide River township was a depot for telegraph workers.
