ONLINE RESOURCES


WHAT ARE ONLINE RESOURCES?

Online Resources are specialised databases that provide high quality information and services. The service includes an online reference and information service and free online encylopedias, newspapers and journals, homework help, children's storybooks and more.



ARE ONLINE RESOURCES FREE?


The majority of Online Resources are not freely available on the World Wide Web, however, Alyangula Community Library pays an annual subscription fee to allow free access to all library members.



WHERE CAN I ACCESS THESE ONLINE RESOURCES?

You can use these resources on the library computers, or, if you are a library member, outside of the library (for example at home, at your office or school) via the Internet.



HOW CAN I ACCESS THESE ONLINE RESOURCES?

To use the resources outside of the library, you need to be a library member and have a login and password. Membership is free, and entitles you to a library login and password. Online Resources are accessible from the online Alyangula Community Library Catalogue or alternatively, you can click on the following link which leads to them directly:

ANZ REFERENCE CENTRE
This database provides local perspectives on current events, business, sports, and many other subjects.

Some of the features of this database are:
  • Over 400 magazines and newspapers (most with full text)
  • Australian reference works
  • Over 26,000 biographies
  • Company directory (50,000+ Australian and 10,000+ New Zealand)

AUSTLIT
AustLit indexes and describes Australian literature published in a range of print and electronic information sources.

Some of the features of this database are:
  • Biographical information about authors including pseudonyms and alternative names
  • Links between authors, works, subjects and places



ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA ONLINE
Encyclopedia Britannica On-line includes the complete encyclopedia, as well as Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus, Britannica Student Encyclopedia and the Britannia Book of the Year.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS RESOURCE CENTRE
Health and Wellness Resource Centre is a comprehensive resource for libraries, schools and community people to access medical, health, and wellness information. The database contains up-to-date reference materials as well as full-text magazines, journals, and pamphlets from a wide variety of medical sources.

LIBRARIES AUSTRALIA
Libraries Australia will help you find resources including books, journals, pictures, music, maps, newspapers and electronic documents, located in Australia and overseas.



TERRITORY IMAGES
Territory Images is a collection of historical and contemporary photographs held by the Northern Territory Library. Many of the images are available on-line through the Territory Images website. Photos cover a broad range of subjects relating to the Territory and its people, and many of the images date back to the early days in the NT.



TUMBLEBOOK LIBRARY
TumbleBook Libvrary is a collection of over 100 animated, talking picture books, e-books, which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love.

WHAT DO I READ NEXT?
What Do I Read Next includes recommended titles and summaries, by genre, subject, author, titles, series, and more to help users uncover new reading adventures. 'Monthly Highlights' allows the user to see selections of award winners, upcoming titles, and titles that revolve around different subjects each month.

WORLD BOOK ONLINE
World Book On-line encyclopedia includes all articles from the printed version, multimedia and editor-reviewed websites.

Connects students with expert tutors Monday to Friday, 3pm - 8pm.
