Hello, welcome to Angurugu Community Library We have a specimen collection of insects found on the island. An exciting new project started in early 2005. Local people are involved in setting up a data base called OUR STORY, Ngakwurrilangwa Alawudawarra, data base. The data base holds photos, movies, sound recordings, documents, records of objects of significance to the local community. The Northern Territory Library is helping to train local community people to set up and manage the data base. Donations of information , photos, sounds, etc, towards this huge and exciting project can be directed to the Angurugu Community Government Council. Find out how you can be involved by contacting the email address below
HERITAGE PROJECT The OUR STORY data base project will link with plans to open a museum in a restored heritage building known as the "School House". The restoration of the School House completes a cluster of restored historical buildings in the centre of town. Local elders are working with the Angurugu Community Government Council to make the museum a place where traditional knowledge is preserved for future generations. If you have lived on Groote Eylandt you may wish to contribute to this project. Contact the email address below.
