Our Services

Loans
People living in Nhulunbuy for 8 months or more qualify for full membership, and can borrow up to 10 items at a time. Books: 10 for 4 weeks. Magazines, videos, DVDs, CDs, CD-ROMs: 2 at a time for 2 weeks.

People living here for 3 to 8 months, or Fly In Fly Out qualify for a temporary membership and can borrow 2 items at a time for 2 weeks.

Anyone who does not qualify for membership is welcome to use our free book exchange.

If we haven't got what you need, let us know. We may be able to borrow books from Darwin, interstate, or purchase them for you to use.

Questions
We can help with researching your family history, tracking down old newspaper articles, or finding that elusive book. Anything, just ask!

Training
Interested in learning how to use the Internet, send e-mail, or about the invisible web? Free training available.

Displays
Display space available to promote your club or activities.

Community Residents
Live on a homeland community? Books can be posted to you.

Languages
Books in languages other than English are available.

Computers
Computers are available for research, e-mail and word processing. All for free! Photocopy or print for 20c a page.

E-Information
Free electronic information via library subscriptions: e-books for kids, encyclopaedias for school assignments, and family health and medical information. Available from the library, or through the library catalogue at home.

Newspapers
Northern Territory, Australian and International newspapers in print or online.

Book Exchange
Take books away from our free book exchange, no need to bring them back!

EAC
Check out our East Arnhem Collection for information on local topics such as World War II history, Indigenous culture and the Alcan mine.

Fire Engine Visits Storytime

Under 5's Storytime
Bring along your under 5's for Storytime every Wednesday and Friday at 10am, to enjoy some great stories, singing, dancing and colouring in. There's a new theme every month!

June's theme is All About Me!

School Holiday Activities
During the June/July and December/January school holidays, the Library hosts a variety of events every week for the kids to enjoy! Check here closer to the holidays for details.

Altered Book Frame

Turn an old book into a photo frame! Bring along a photo or two that you can cut up.

Numbers are limited, bookings are essential.

After Hours Events
Every month the Library hosts an "After Hours Event", where teens have the whole library, including the computers and Playstation, to themselves. With a different theme each month, it's sure to be a lot of fun! Keep an eye here for further details about upcoming events.

Playstation Area

Anime Club
Join us at the Library every second Saturday from 1.30pm for screenings of different anime titles. Food and drinks allowed, and you're welcome to bring pillows and blankets to get comfy. If you're under 15 years of age, you need a signed permission slip to attend - grab one from the Library. You only have to hand it in the once to attend all screenings.

  • National Geographic Index for all the kids with geography assignments - an online index to the National Geographic magazine. Indexed from 1888 to date (no full-text is included).  
  • The TumbleBookLibrary is a collection of TumbleBooks (animated, talking picture books), TumblePuzzles, TumbleQuizzes and TumbleResources for Teachers. TumbleBooks are created from existing picture books which we have licensed from children's book publishers and converted to the TumbleBook format.
