Hello, welcome to Pirlangimpi Library and Knowledge Centre

My name is Jacqueline V. Bourke, and I work at Pirlangimpi Library and Knowledge Centre which is situated on Melville Island, 95 kilometres north of Darwin. I've been working in the library since 2001.

Library Collection
We have a collection of indigenous books and multimedia resources, plus books in local language. Other items in the collection include

• picture books
• educational toys
• CDs and dvds
• fiction books
• non fiction books
• magazines
• reference books

You can also access the internet in the library for such things as email, banking and finding information.

Ngini Tiwi Our Story Database
Local people have beed involved in setting up a database called Ngini Tiwi which is held in both Pirlangimpi and Milikapiti libraries. The Ngini Tiwi Our story database holds photos, movies, sound recordings, documents and objects of significance to the Tiwi community.

The Northern Territory Library is helping to train local community people to set up and manage the database. Donations of information, photos or sound etc towards the Ngini Tiwi database can be directed to
