About Us
Umbakumba is located on the north east coast of Groote Eylandt and is one of three major communities on the Island. The community and outstations are serviced by the Umbakumba Community Council Inc. The Island is managed by the Anindilyakwa Land Council. Umbakumba has good beaches for fishing, crabbing and boating.
The Library has over 2000 items that includes books, videos, magazines, DVDs, and games/puzzles. The Library has internet access on four public computers.
The Yirrilangwa Alawudawarr Our Story database has been set up at the library contains over 3000 items including photographs, movies and songs. The database is an important project for the community of Umbakumba for people to access their past.
All past residents of Umbakumba are invited to contribute to the development of the database by making available any photos, sound recording and movies of Umbakumba.
